Ouch!

Yup, I pulled another 'Kate' move... timing is perfect as always. On May 2nd, I was at work, walking through the plant when I kicked a wood pallet that was laying across the pedestrian aisle. I was taking a stride forward (think how you'd move if you were kicking a soccer ball - that's how hard I walked into it), which forced my foot between the planks, where it stuck and I soon found myself wearing the pallet like a shoe. Nicely done. So graceful.

Fortunately, I was able to shake the pallet off my foot and caught myself from falling, otherwise I would have had a compound fracture for sure. I tried walking off the pain and hobbled out to the car to drive over to the Welcome Center on site. By the time I got there, I didn't think I was going to be able to walk inside. My foot swelled up with an enormous purple egg and the skin split open - I thought for sure I had broken a bone, but the emergency response team at work said it was just a contusion and an abrasion. Whatever it was, it was ugly, and my first thought went to the strappy shoes I'm supposed to wear for John's wedding on May 19th. Leave it to me to mess up the photos!

The photo attached was taken at the one-week mark. The swelling is gone, and I'm healing, but it's still ugly. And some jerk stepped on my foot on a business trip Thursday, so some purple has resurfaced. Look out 'tan in a can' here I come! I guess the good news is that my foot is now green, so it will blend with the bridesmaid dress.
